Virginia Borghetti, 93

Dedicated mother, nurse, teacher and friend

MELROSE — Virginia “Ginny” (Brostrom) Borghetti, formerly of Melrose passed away on Saturday, April 26. She was 93. Virginia is predeceased by her husband Joseph (Joe) Borghetti, her sister Eleanor (Brostrom) Andersen, brothers and sisters-in-law Anthony and Rose Borghetti of Revere and Louis and Concettina (Tina Borghetti) Belmonte.

After graduating from Saugus High School in 1948, Ginny received her RN from Salem Normal, now Salem State University and worked as an ER nurse at Salem Hospital after graduation. In 1952, the “Golden Age of Air Travel” called her and Ginny changed careers to become a flight attendant (“stewardess” as she’d say) for what is now Delta Airlines. In 1954, she and Joe were married at Blessed Sacrament Church in Saugus. They moved to Melrose in 1957 and raised their family.

Ginny was passionate about education and children’s well-being. She worked as a school nurse at both Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School and Melrose Junior and Senior High Schools, all while studying at Salem State University and earning a master’s degree in Education there. She then moved onto “her dream job” of elementary health teacher with the Woburn Public Schools.

Ginny is survived by her children Peter J. Borghetti and his wife Cherylann of Wyncote, PA and Mark Borghetti and his partner Ronald Graf of Melrose. She was proud grandmother to Thomas P. Borghetti and his wife Meghan of Landsdale, PA; Daniel F. Borghetti of Philadelphia, PA and Jonathan W. Borghetti of Wyncote, PA. She was also a very affectionate great-grandmother to Jackson and Brady Borghetti. Ginny is also survived by her brother-in-law James “Jim” C. Andersen of Ashburn, VA and many loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Church in Saugus.
