READING — August Doetsch leaves a lasting legacy at Austin Prep in Reading as he graduated this year having built an exceptional record in both indoor and outdoor track—and even on the soccer pitch.
From the moment Doetsch first laced up his spikes for Austin Prep as an 8th grader, he made an impact as a Central Catholic League (CCL) and NEPSAC All-Star. Remarkably, he maintained All-Star status every year in both the CCL and the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) through his senior campaign, consistently ranking among the top six athletes in the league.
Doetsch’s specialty events, the 400m and 800m, made him a household name in Massachusetts track circles. In both his junior and senior seasons, he secured top 10 statewide rankings in these events, demonstrating not only speed but unwavering consistency.
His talents weren’t limited to the state level: August qualified for the prestigious US High School Nationals every year of high school, excelling in both relays and individual events.
The 2025 season marked a grand finale to his high school career. August finished as the No. 11 runner in the nation in the 600m and secured a top 50 national placement in the 800m, underlining his place among the country’s elite young middle-distance runners.
His athleticism carried over into the fall as well. Doetsch was recognized as a NEPSAC D1 All-Star in soccer for both his junior and senior years, cementing his status as one of Austin Prep’s standout multi-sport athletes.
This fall, August will bring his talents to Wesleyan University, where he plans to run both indoor and outdoor track while pursuing a degree in bio or chemical engineering.
With a rare mix of academic ambition and athletic distinction, Doetsch is set to continue his journey of excellence at the collegiate level, inspired by a decorated high school career that sets the bar for all future Austin Prep athletes.
