MELROSE — The Melrose Music Department announces that four Melrose High School students: Jonah Peters, percussion; Dom Quinci, string bass; Jonah Tully, trombone; and Kate Urchuk, soprano, will participate in the Northeastern Sr. District Music Festival, sponsored by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association.The festival showcases students in performance ensembles such as Concert Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Chorus and Orchestra, from 58 surrounding communities in the northeastern part of the state.
The students were scored according to the MMEA Northeastern District performance rubric in the categories of melodic accuracy, rhythmic accuracy, tone quality and production, intonation, interpretation and diction, as well as solo quality and sight reading accuracy.
Over 700 students auditioned for the festival on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at North Andover High School, in which only 401 students were selected to perform.
The festival will culminate with two concerts on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at The New England Conservatory of Music and will be attended by music educators, administrators, parents and students from around the area. The MMEA is a federated state unit of NAfME, the National Association for Music Education.
