MELROSE — You are invited to a screening of the film “Crip Camp — A Disability Revolution,” Sundance Film Festival Audience Award Winner (Documentary) at Melrose UU Church, 70 W. Emerson St., Melrose, on Saturday, April 5 at 6 p.m.
The film is free and open to the public. All are welcome! The church is located 0.2 miles from the Cedar Park commuter rail stop on the Haverhill line.
In the early 1970s, teenagers with disabilities faced a future shaped by isolation, discrimination and institutionalization. Camp Jened, in the Catskills, offered campers the ability to explore freedoms many of them had never experienced prior. Their experiences at Camp Jened created lifelong bonds and paved the way for five decades of advocacy for disability rights.
Please come see this important film. A discussion with local disability advocates will follow the film showing. An accessible entrance is available at the side of our building.
The parking spots near the accessible entrance will all be reserved for those with physical needs.
Closed captioning will be provided during the film as well as assisted listening devices for the hearing impaired. We also will have personal devices available to provide audio descriptions for those with visual disabilities. If you have any additional accommodation requests, please let us know by sending an email to fellowship@melroseuu.org
