Multiple Lynnfield teams get strong rankings in first update from MIAA

LYNNFIELD — The MIAA’s first official power rankings were released on Tuesday morning. Multiple Lynnfield High teams had strong rankings and all six power-ranked sports are in position to make the state tournament as they approach the halfway point of the season next week. 

The boys’ tennis team is ranked No. 1 in Div. 4 with a perfect record of 7-0. The remaining teams in the top five are Monomoy (7-1), Manchester-Essex (8-0), Cohasset (5-3) and Sturgis Charter West (3-0). 

The girls’ tennis team is ranked No. 2 in Div. 4 behind only Broomfield School (6-1). The Pioneers have a record of 7-1. Rounding out the top five in girls’ tennis is Hamilton-Wenham (6-0), Monomoy (6-2) and Pioneer Valley (7-0). 

The baseball team (5-3) is also ranked No. 2 in D4. Lynnfield is only looking up at No. 1 Pittsfield (10-1). The Pioneers are followed by Hamilton-Wenham (8-1), Uxbridge (9-2) and Northbridge (6-2). 

The boys’ lacrosse team checks in at No. 7 in the first D4 rankings with a record of 7-2. The top six includes Weston (7-1) at No. 1 followed by Norwell (8-3), Cohasset (8-2), Nantucket (5-1), Ipswich (6-2) and Manchester-Essex (7-1). 

The girls’ lacrosse team (2-8) is ranked No. 17 in Div. 4. The top five includes Ipswich (7-1), Sandwich (7-1), Cohasset (7-1), Weston (5-2) and Norwell (7-1). 

The softball team (2-5) is No. 24 in Div. 4. The top five in softball are Uxbridge (10-0), Hampshire Regional (11-0), Tyngsborough (7-1), Joseph Case (7-2) and Advanced Math and Science (7-1).
