NORTH READING — Last week, the North Reading Police Department recognized the retirement of a veteran member of the force, promoted an officer to sergeant and welcomed a new police officer to its ranks.
On July 7, Sergeant Paul Dorsey Jr. retired after almost 30 years of dedicated service to the town of North Reading Police Department, stated Police Chief Mark A. Zimmerman in a memo.
Originally appointed as a North Reading police officer in 1995, he joined the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) Rapid Response Team (RRT) in 1999 and became a member of the NEMLEC SWAT Team in 2001, ultimately ascending to the NEMLEC SWAT Commander position.
Dorsey subsequently earned promotions to Detective in January 2013 and to Sergeant in August 2013. In addition to his duties as sergeant and with NEMLEC, Dorsey was a Firearms, Taser and a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Instructor.

He was a second-generation North Reading police officer, serving alongside his father, Sergeant Paul Dorsey Sr., early in his career. The elder Dorsey retired from the North Reading Police Department in 1997.
“Paul has served the town of North Reading and its citizens with dedication, professionalism and integrity. Please join me in congratulating Sergeant Paul Dorsey Jr. on a career well done,” Zimmerman stated.
The following day, July 8, the North Reading Police Department held a swearing-in ceremony for a new police officer, Alex Sinyak, and promoted a veteran officer, Joe Aleo, to Sergeant.
“Alex comes to us via the Boston University Police Department and is a veteran of the U.S. Army,” Zimmerman stated. “Sgt. Aleo has been with the department for eight years and is a firearms instructor and member of the department’s accreditation team.”
