NORTH READING — It was a rough night for the North Reading A’s on July 21 as they fell to the visiting Peabody Champions at North Reading High School.
With that defeat, the A’s record dipped to 4-17 in the North Shore Baseball League while league-leader Peabody, improved to 14-5.
It was the A’s 11th loss in the past 12 games.
Peabody scored four runs in the first, three in the second and third innings. They scored once in the fifth and seven more in the top of the sixth.
The A’s’ three runs came in the bottom of the fourth.
The Champions had nine hits and played error-free ball while the A’s had four hits and committed five errors.
On July 15, the A’s lost to host Bevelry, 11-1, at Cooney Field
The game at Rowley, scheduled for July 20, was rained out and will not be made up.
North Reading wraps up the regular season on Saturday at 4 p.m. as they host the Northeast Tides.
The A’s hitting leader is Jack Mihalchik who is hitting at .452. Second on the team is Luke Martinho who is batting .383.
The team leader in runs batted in is player-coach Joe Dardeno as the North Reading resident has 10 runs knocked in. Mihalchik, with eight, is second.
Mike Vittozzi, another North Reading resident, leads the team in walks with eight while Aaron Kerithen has seven.
Martinho leads the A’s in extra base hits with seven while Vittozzi has three for second place.
As a team, the A’s are ranked third in the lead with a team average of .308.
The pitching, however, is ranked last in the league with a team earned-run average of 6.23.
Hayden Walch is the team leader in wins as he is 3-4 with an ERA of 3:50. Ryan Brown is 1-0 with an ERA of 1.62 in 8.2 innings of work.
North Reading’s Frank Cassarino has an ERA of 3.23 as he has thrown 13 innings with a record of 0-0.
