BEDFORD — The NRHS boys’ soccer season came to an abrupt end with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the No. 1 seed Bedford Buccaneers in the Division 3 North Quarterfinals on November 6.

Even with the loss, head coach Mark Bisognano was happy with the season.

“There are certainly a lot of positives to take from this season,” said Bisognano. “Eleven wins including a win in the postseason, a win over Masco and a late win over Pentucket are certainly among the highlights.

“Our seniors have been terrific all year. Especially our captains — Will Carpenter, Cam Chinchillo, Ryan McKinney and Justin Capezzuto. They were great on the field, but they were outstanding in creating a great atmosphere.”

The Buccaneers proved in the first half that they were every bit as good as advertised as they kept the Hornets on their heels for long stretches of time.  But the NRHS back four were able to thwart most of the Bedford advances.

The game remained scoreless until the 55th minute when the Bucs took advantage of a throw-in deep in their attacking third. On the play, the Bedford forward unleashed a wicked left-footed shot from a seemingly impossible angle that ended up in the far upper-corner of the net.

After the opening tally, NRHS put on a push for the equalizer. In the 63rd minute, Bedford got the insurance goal they were looking for to move on in the tournament. Bedford defeated Newburyport 1-0 in the semifinals and will play Lynnfield in the finals on Saturday.
