NORTH READING — The North Reading Community Band, under the direction of Judith Allen, will be performing a free summer concert at the bandstand located on the North Reading Town Common on Thursday, August 14 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The public is welcome to come to listen to a variety of tunes ranging from the works of Leroy Anderson to medleys of songs by the Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffet. Bring a blanket or chair and don’t forget the bug spray; then settle back for an evening of music for all ages. Please note that in the case of inclement weather, the concert will be cancelled.
Begun in 1979, the North Reading Community Band is a group of dedicated amateur musicians who gather at the Damon Tavern for rehearsals on Thursday nights throughout the year. Anyone is welcome to join the band. No auditions are needed, only the desire to play music and have fun. The band plays a variety of styles including light classical, Broadway show medleys, traditional band literature, marches, and popular medleys from different eras. Concerts in the community and at different senior and assisted living centers are held during the year.
