NORTH READING – A collection of scenic landscape photographs printed on canvas by Jim Scourletis is on display at the Flint Memorial Library for the month of October.

Having grown up in nearby Ipswich, Scourletis is familiar with North Reading and other surrounding towns along the North Shore. He’s now based out of Haverhill and is a member of the Greater Haverhill Art Association. His work has been shown in galleries and shows including Alex & Co in Salem, Valerie’s Gallery in Newburyport, York Village Gallery in Maine, Provident Bank Lobby for the Arts, and the Boathouse Art Show in Kennebunkport.

Most of the photos on display were shot at familiar favorites throughout New England, ranging from Crane Beach to Essex Creek, and Saddleback Lake to Smalls Falls, Maine. Each photo was taken in varying seasons, some displaying bright sheets of snow, lush greenery, or crisp blue bodies of water embedded with reflections. Appropriately, there are also a few autumnal scenes amidst their transition, where the foliage flaunts its warm spectrum of hues of bright yellow, burnt orange, and striking red.

Scourletis aims to create photographs that accurately portray the scenes as they are experienced in real life. His careful process of printing his photos himself on high quality canvas using a 24-inch wide printer, he explained, helps him achieve the clarity of a regular photograph without any added texture. Without using traditional frames for his photos, they also become more versatile.

The artist shared that he loves when a viewer connects with his work, when they see one of his photos of a place that is meaningful to them or associated with a fond memory. The colorful vibrance and sharp details of each photo help place the viewer into the scene, transporting them to the moment captured in time.

His photographs are on display through October. To see more of his original work visit www.jimscourletis.com.
