NORTH READING — Recently, North Reading High School’s Carey Park was selected by the National High School Baseball Coaches of America (NHSBCA) as the District 1 Field of the Year in the natural turf category.
District 1 is comprised of the six New England states plus New York state.
This distinction will be recognized at the NHSBCA National Awards Banquet to be held in Ft. Meyers, Florida next December where NRHS will compete for the title of National Field of the Year in this category among the eight districts nationwide.
“A special thanks goes to the North Reading Diamond Club, Marty Tilton and the Parks and Recreation Department staff, and Mike Parow and the NRHS maintenance staff,” said retired NRHS baseball coach Frank Carey, the ballpark’s namesake who retired in 2014 after a storied 47-year varsity coaching career as the winningest coach in Massachusetts high school baseball history with 736 career wins, all with the Hornets.
