NORTH READING — A trio of North Reading High School students were recognized for their significant community service contributions as recipients of the President’s Volunteer Service Awards for 2023.

Piper Kirwin earned a Gold level award for her community service as a Camp Counselor and Masquers volunteer.

Abigail Lilley earned a Gold level award for her community service as a Camp Counselor.

Madison Vant earned a Bronze level award for her community service projects planning and working at Kids Night Out, working at Summer Track Camp, and working as a camp counselor.

In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.

Children as young as 5 years old through adults of any age are eligible for such recognition at various four levels — Bronze, Silver, Gold and Lifetime Achievement Award. The number of volunteer service hours varies according to age with the exception of the Lifetime Achievement Award, which requires 4,000+ hours.

Teens ages 11-15 need 50-74 hours to earn Bronze, 75-99 hours to earn Silver and 100+ hours to earn gold. Young adults ages 16-25 need 100-174 hours to earn Bronze, 175-249 hours to earn Silver and 250+ hours to earn Gold.

The PVSA has continued under each administration, honoring the volunteers who are using their time and talents to solve some of the toughest challenges facing the nation.

Led by the AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light, this program allows certifying organizations to recognize their most exceptional volunteers.

NRHS Principal Anthony Loprete and Social Studies Curriculum Leader Matthew Oosting presented the awards to Kirwin, Lilley and Vant.
