WOBURN — It was a successful season opener for the North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team last Saturday as they beat host Woburn, 9-6, on a raw, damp day.

The Tanners led 2-0 early but the Hornets fought back and tied the game at four late in the second quarter.

In the second half, the Hornets outscored the Tanners, 5-2.

“We had good ball movement and caused a lot of turnovers on defense,” said Hornets head coach Chuck Campobasso. “We played with a lot of effort.”

Finn Rodger and Conrad Gerber led the North Reading attack with three goals each. Dylan O’Driscoll led the team in points with four as he had two goals and two assists. Jackson Wesley had the other goal.

Brendan Gazda and PJ Conte each added one assist.

Hornet goalie David Tran made eight saves.

The next two games for the Hornets will be at home and they are both Cape Ann League contests.

On Saturday, they host Essex Tech at 10 a.m. North Reading then welcomes Hamilton-Wenham on Monday with that game starting at 4:30 p.m.
