Hornet boys’ track team goes 4-0 to win CAL Kinney title

Finish 2nd at State Relay Championship

BOSTON — The NRHS boys’ indoor track team finished the regular season 4-0 with a dual meet win over Pentucket 64-36 on Jan. 21 at The Track at New Balance, thus securing the Cape Ann League Kinney Division title.

Leading the way for the Hornets with victories in their individual events were Kieran Miller (55 meter dash and long jump), Daniil Baranetski (55 Hurdles), Otto Indelicato (shot put), Gavin Brady (600) and Nalo Benedict (2 mile).

The Hornets also won both relay races, the 4×200 team consisting of Baranetski, Kaio Pancini, Brendan Trentsch and Mason Tauro and the 4×400 team with Brady, Blaine Evans, Lucas Do Val and Torin Nickerson.

The Hornets traveled to the Reggie Lewis Track for the Division 5 State Relay Championships on Jan. 25. The team finished 2nd overall out of 30 schools.

Winners for the Hornets were the Shuttle Hurdle team of Baranetski, Pancini, Nickerson and Nico Johnson; the shot put relay team consisting of Indelicato, Leo Romanski and Mike Del Vecchio and the long jump relay team of Miller, Tanner DuPriest and Trentsch.

In addition to winning the relay, Miller set the individual school record in the long jump with a jump of 21’3.75”.

Runners-up for the Hornets were the Shuttle Dash Team (SMR) of Do Val, Tauro, Blaine Evans and DuPriest and the Sprint Medley Relay of Miller, DuPriest, Do Val and Brady.

The shot put, long jump and SMR relay teams all set school records in their respective events.

Other relay teams that placed for the Hornets were the Distance Medley Relay of Alex Mitasev, Johnson, Ethan Quan and Liam Steele, the 4×400 of Do Val, Evans, Nickerson and Brady and the high jump relay of Pancini, Baranetski and Michael Mahoney.

The Hornets will now turn their attention to the Cape Ann League Open Championship at The Track at New Balance on Feb. 4.
