NORTH READING — The North Reading High golf team wrapped up the regular season on Monday with a convincing 174-135 win over guest Manchester-Essex at Hillview Golf Club on a cool, wet day.
Although Manchester-Essex is in the Cape Ann League, this was a non-league match.
Isabel Brozena had a season-best two under par 34 as the Xavier bound senior shot a 34 for 40 points (Stableford scoring).
Junior Liam Blanchette was second with a personal-best 30 points. Leo Romanski and Jason Curran both tied for third on the team with 27 points each.
“We are heading in the right direction with the North Sectionals coming up next Monday,” said Hornets head coach Brian McAuliffe.
With that victory, the Hornets finished at 11-3 overall and 9-2 in the Cape Ann League. They placed third in the CAL Kinney Division behind Lynnfield and Newburyport.
On Oct. 12, Brozena and Romanski were the two North Reading representatives in the CAL Open at Far Corner in West Boxford.
Brozena came in tied for seventh with 27 points Romanski ended up with 34.
“Isabel was disappointed,” admitted McAuliffe. “Both of them couldn’t get much going and some of the players from the other schools had some big days.”
Georgetown’s Ty Southhall who scored 69 points, came in first.
This week, the Hornets are preparing for the Division 3 North Sectional which will be held at Stow Acres (North Course) on Oct. 23. That event, which is a stroke-play format, will start at 9 a.m.
Only the top three teams will advance to the Division 3 state final the following week.
