Hornet track and field team excels at state Freshman/Sophomore Meet

BOSTON — The MSTCA Freshman Sophomore Meet (Small School) took place this past Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center. The North Reading girls’ track and field team was represented by five girls, a group made up of two freshmen (Maddie Forbush and Addie Kelly) and three sophomores (Giuliana Auciello, Katie Zimmerman, and Quin Kelly).

On the boys’ side, one freshman (Brendan Trentsch) and eight sophomores (Seth Evans, Gavin Brady, Ben Cook, Ethan Quan, Mason Tauro, Gerard Jorda, Otto Indelicato and Leo Romanski) competed.

It was a successful meet all around as many athletes set new personal records (PRs) and/or medalled in their events.

In the 55 Meter Dash, sophomores Ben Cook and Seth Evans both had strong races. Cook ran a PR of 7.43. Evans ran 7.05 in prelims and made it to the final where he ran 7.03 and secured 8th place, making him a medalist. Freshman Maddie Forbush placed 72nd with a time of 8.50 seconds. Sophomore Giuliana Auciello was the only North Reading athlete to compete in the 55m hurdles. She ran a time of 10.48 and came 19th.

In the boys’ 300m, both freshman Brendan Trentsch and sophomore Mason Tauro set new PRs. Trentsch ran a time of 41.44 coming in 49th. Tauro claimed 56th with a time of 41.97.

In the 600 Meter Run, sophomore Gavin Brady took 1st place with his outstanding time of 1:27.47, which was also a PR. Sophomore Ethan Quan also had a PR in the event and came 15th with a time of 1:35.29. Gerard Jorda, a sophomore, claimed 36th place in the boys’ 1000m run with a time of 3:09.80.

Quinlan Kelly, also a sophomore, placed 9th and set a new PR with a time of 3:21.74 in the girls’ 1000m. In the 1 Mile Run, freshman Addie Kelly came 12th with a new PR of 6:04.27.

North Reading also had an impressive showing in the field events. In the High Jump, Giuliana Auciello medaled. She came 8th jumping 4′ 6″. On the boys’ side, Ben Cook took 10th with a jump of 5’ 4”.

In the Long Jump, sophomore Katie Zimmerman came in 9th with her jump of 14’ 9”. Brendan Trentsch and Gavin Brady came in 13th and 22nd respectively. Trentsch jumped 17’ 11.75” and Brady jumped 17’ 1.75”.

Sophomores Otto Indelicato and Leo Romanski represented North Reading High School in Shot Put. Indelicato medaled and set a new PR with his 5th place throw of 41’ .25”. Romanski threw 35’ 8”, which put him in 11th place.

The 4×200 Meter Relay Teams finished the day. The girls’ team was made up of Katie Zimmerman (sophomore), Giuliana Auciello (sophomore), Maddie Forbush (freshman) and Quin Kelly (sophomore). Each athlete had a strong performance however they were disqualified due to a handoff outside the zone.

The boys’ team included Seth Evans (sophomore), Gavin Brady (sophomore), Ethan Quan (sophomore), and Brendan Trentsch (freshman). The team ran an impressive race, coming in 2nd with a time of 1:39.69.

Overall, it was a successful meet. North Reading had six medalists: Giuliana Auciello (high jump), Seth Evans (55m, 4×200 Relay), Brendan Trentsch (4×200 Relay), Gavin Brady (600m, 4×200 Relay), Ethan Quan (4×200 Relay) and Otto Indelicato (Shot Put). In addition, eight athletes set new PRs.
