UPDATE: Boys’ basketball falls to Salem after upsetting Springfield Science and Tech in preliminary round

SPRINGFIELD — The North Reading High boys’ basketball team traveled to Springfield to play the Springfield High School of Science and Technology on Wednesday night after press time in a preliminary round game of the Div. 3 state tournament. 

The 39th-ranked Hornets entered the game with a record of 11-9 while the No. 26 Cybercats are 9-11. 

North Reading punched their ticket to the big dance by winning their last three games of the regular season to put their record above .500 which means an automatic bid. 

The Hornets had two players named CAL All-Stars as junior captain Jason Berry got the nod to the All-League team while senior Parker Griffin was named to the All-Star team. 

The winner of Wednesday night’s prelim matchup will head to No. 7 Salem for a first round matchup on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Witches are 16-4 on the season.
