NORTH READING — The North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team won its final game of the regular season on May 23 as they edged Danvers, 9-7, at home on a damp, cool day.
With that non-league victory, the Hornets improved to 9-9 overall. The Falcons, meanwhile, fell to 6-12.
The Hornets ended the season with three-straight wins as they head to the postseason with some positive momentum.
The Falcons jumped out to an early, 3-0, lead but were shut out the rest of the half as the Hornets scored four times to go to the break up one.
North Reading never trailed in the second half and were up, 9-6, when the Falcons scored a late goal to cut the lead to two.
“We responded when we had to,” said Hornets head coach Chuck Campobasso. “We had a half day at school and maybe that is why we got off to a slow start.”
Jackson Wesley had a season-high four goals to lead the attack.
“That was his best game of the year,” stated Campobasso. “He has really been a reliable scorer for us lately.”
Dylan O’Driscoll had five points with two goals and a team-high three assists while Conrad Gerber had four points with two goals and two assists.
Finn Rodger had one goal and one assist while PJ Conte added one assist.
Hornet goalie David Tran, made 18 saves to improved to 9-8.
Entering this week, North Reading was seeded 19th in the MIAA Division 4 power rankings. The seedings came out on Wednesday afternoon as the Hornets will play on the road for the first round (opponent, time and date unknown as of press time).
