NORTH READING — It was a tough day for the North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team on Monday as they lost, 17-2, to host Pentucket up in Groveland.
With that defeat, the Hornets record fell to 4-11 overall and 2-9 in the Cape Ann League. The Panthers, who swept the season series, improved to 12-2 overall and 9-0 in the league.
“They are the best team in the league,” stated Hornets head coach Chuck Campobasso. “They have been rolling through everybody in the league.”
The Panthers led this game, 8-1, at the half.
Sam Morelli and Logan Lamont had the two North Reading goals.
Dave Tran fell made 13 saves.
On May 11, the Hornets lost, 11-7, at home to Triton as the Vikings were able to sweep the season series.
Before the game, the five Hornet seniors, Morelli, Shawn Connolly, Andrew Hopfer, Teddy Suny and Matt Young were all honored.
This game was tied at three at halftime and knotted at six after the third quarter before the Vikings pulled away in the fourth.
“We got out of sorts in the fourth quarter,” admitted Campobasso.
North Reading’s next game will be on May 19 as they go to Haverhill to take on Whittier Tech in a non-league game. That contest will start at 4:30 p.m.
On May 24, they wrap up the regular season at home against Belmont. That game will also start at 4:30 p.m.
The good news is that the Hornets entered this week seeded 26th in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings. The top 32 teams, regardless of record, qualify for the state tournament at the end of the regular season.
