NORTH READING — The North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team won a hard-earned, 7-5, decision over visiting Pentucket on Tuesday afternoon. With that victory, the Hornets improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Cape Ann League.

The Panthers, meanwhile, fell to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the league.

“That was our first win over them in a few years,” pointed out Hornets head coach Chuck Campobasso. “They beat us twice last year so this was a big win.”

North Reading led 3-2 at the half. They then extended their lead to 7-3 in the fourth quarter before the Panthers scored two late goals.

Dylan O’Driscoll led the Hornet attack with three goals and one assist. Finn Rodger had two goals and one helper while Brendan Gazda had one goal and two assists.

Jackson Wesley had the other Hornet tally.

PJ Conte and Matt Mericantante both had one assist.

Goalie, David Tran, made 14 saves to go to 4-1.

Last Thursday afternoon, the Hornets beat host Triton, 10-3, up in Byfield.

The Hornets led 6-3 at the half as they shut the Vikings out in the second half while they scored four times.

“They have some good athletes but we were able to cause a lot of turnovers in the second half,” pointed out Campobasso.
Gazda had three goals and one assist while Rodger also scored three times. Conte had five points with two goals and a team-high three assists.

O’Driscoll had one goal and a pair of assists while Conrad Gerber had the other goal.

Wesley had one assist as well.

Tran made 11 stops in net.

On April 17, the Hornets visit Ipswich at 4:30 p.m.

The team will play only once during April Vacation Week next week as they visit Wakefield on April 24.

That non-league contest will start at 10 a.m.
