NORTH READING — On Monday afternoon, the North Reading High boys’ tennis team beat Amesbury, 4-1, at home on a warm, sunny day. It was the team’s first match in 12 days as they had the April Vacation Week off last week.
With the victory, the Hornets improved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Cape Ann League.

Senior co-captain, Parker Lee, shut out his opponent at first singles, 6-0, 6-0, while second-singles player, Kellen Tiberii, easily won, 6-1, 6-0.

“Parker has been outstanding his last two matches,” stated Hornets head coach Mark Bisognano.

John Pastore made his season debut at third singles and won, 6-2, 6-1.

“We were missing two starters this match so John really stepped up for us,” pointed out Bisognano, as Pastore normally plays first doubles.

In doubles play, the first team of Nolan Pierce and Connor Abruzzese won, 6-2, 6-1.

The second team of  Cole Verdonck and Reilly Mabbett lost, 6-3, 6-2.

The next match for the Hornets will be on Thursday as they host Pentucket. North Reading then visits Rockport on May 5.

On May 6, the Hornets have a non-league match as they visit Methuen. All three of these matches will start at 4 p.m.
