BOSTON — On Friday, Jan. 19, the North Reading High School boys’ indoor track and field team participated in the Div. 5 State Relay Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center. This is a unique track meet that incorporates teams of athletes to get one combined score for each event.
The Hornets ended up taking fourth place overall after a meet of 10 events.
The meet started on the infield with the sprinting events, the 4×50 yard hurdle relay and 4×50 yard dash relay. The North Reading hurdle team comprised of Nico Johnson, Daniil Baranetski, Torin Nickerson and Frankie Dearborn started the meet off strong by coming in fourth place. This race was followed by a 6th place finish in the dash relay by Kieran Miller, Tanner DuPriest, Noah Schifano and Seth Evans.
The field events were a strong point for the Hornets at this meet led by the long jump relay team of Miller, Dupriest and Schifano, winning the event.
The shot put team of Otto Indelicato, Mike DelVecchio, and Leo Romanski set a school record in the event and finished 2nd overall.
The high jump team of Mike Mahoney, Ben Cook and Baranetski also had a 6th place finish.
The Hornets will be back on the track on Wednesday, with a friendly competition with Phillips Academy.
