Boys’ track starts season 2-0 with wins over Newburyport and Triton

BOSTON — The NRHS boys’ indoor track and field team has begun the season 2-0 after team wins against Newburyport and Triton.

Leading the way for the Hornets against Newburyport on Dec. 14 at The Track at New Balance with individual victories were Kieran Miller in the 55 meter dash, Lucas Do Val in the 300 meter, Gavin Brady in the 600 meter, Daniil Baranetski in the high jump, Tanner DuPriest in the long jump and Otto Indelicato in the shot ut. The 4×200 meter relay team consisting of Seth Evans, Dupriest, Brady and Miller were also victorious.

Winners against Triton on Jan. 7 back at The Track were Miller in the long jump and 55 meter dash, Baranetski in the 55 meter hurdles, Brady in the 600 meters and Indelicato in the shot put.

The 4×200 meter relay team consisting of Seth Evans, Blaine Evans, Brady and Miller clinched the meet for the Hornets and broke an NRHS and Cape Ann League record running in 1:31.80. That time is currently the 6th fastest time in Massachusetts this year.

The meet was tied going into the 4×200 relay and NR’s four came through in the clutch for the win. The relay team’s new school record surpassed the previous record of 1:32.45 set in 2023.

The boys will now turn their attention to Essex Tech, who they met on Tuesday after press time, and to the state championship relay meet on Jan. 19.
