DANVERS — The North Reading High field hockey team won its third consecutive game on Monday afternoon as they shut out host Essex Tech, 3-0, up in Danvers on a sunny, warm day.

With the victory, the Hornets improved to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the Cape Ann League.

North Reading was also able to complete the season sweep over the Hawks as they beat them, 3-1, in the season opener on Sept. 4.

The Hawks, meanwhile, fell to 2-6 overall and in the CAL with the defeat.

After a scoreless first half, the Hornets scored once in the third quarter and twice in the fourth.

Sophia El-Sheikh had the first goal scoring, unassisted, with 10:20 left in the third.

Alyse Mutti then got fouled by the Hawks goalie and she was awarded a penalty stroke with 11 minutes left in the game. She ended up scoring to make it 2-0.

El-Sheikh had the final tally off a corner with 3:46 remaining in the game with the assist going to Ellie Moberg.

Hornet goalie, Thea Panousos, made three saves to improve to 8-1 as she posted her third shutout of the year.

“Essex Tech looked better than when we played them the first time,” said Hornets head coach Mikayla Allen. “We struggled a little in the first half but were able to find our grove in the second half.”

On Oct. 7, the Hornets visit Amesbury for their next game. They then host Hamilton-Wenham on Oct. 9. Both of those games will start at 4:30 p.m.
