North Reading defeats Ipswich 58-7 (Jan. 29)
NORTH READING — Led by Makenzie Murphy’s game-high 13 points, the North Reading High girls’ basketball team extended their wining streak to four games with a 37-15 victory over Triton on Friday night at NRHS.
Kiersten Higgins added 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals in an all-around strong performance.
North Reading played stifling defense all night long, including holding Triton scoreless in the second quarter while opening up a 20-3 halftime lead.
“Defense has been our team identity this season and tonight was no different,” said head coach Bob Romeo. “With our offense not quite as sharp as it has been, our defense was what carried us tonight.”
The Hornets (12-1) traveled to Ipswich on Wednesday night after press time. They host Lynnfield (5-8) on Friday for Teacher Appreciation Night. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
