NORTH READING — On April 17, the North Reading High girls’ lacrosse team lost, 17-6, at home to mighty Ipswich. With that defeat, the Hornets record dropped to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the Cape Ann League.

The Tigers stayed undefeated with the win as they improved to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the CAL.

“Along with Pentucket and Newburyport they are the best team we have played so far,” said Hornets head coach Matt Costello. “I was proud of how we played with them in the first half, but we had too many turnovers in the second half,”

The Hornets only trailed, 9-5, at the half as the Tigers pulled away in the second stanza.

Addison Hajj led the Hornets with one goal and one assist. Lindsey Rosenthal, Makenzie Murphy, Alaina Driscoll and Sophia El-Sheikh all scored once.

Hornet goalie, Cara Ward, made 10 saves.

“That was a career-high for Cara,” pointed out Costello. “That was the best game I have seen her play.’

Allie Wile led the visitors with seven goals and one assist while Lucy Winthrop netted five.

“Wile is a very talented player,” acknowledged Costello.

The Hornets have the April Vacation Week off this week as they return to action on Monday when they host Essex Tech at 4:15 p.m.

North Reading then visits Newburyport on April 30 with that game starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Hornets are looking for the season sweep against Essex Tech and trying to get a split of the season series against Newburyport.

North Reading edged the Hawks, 8-7, on April 12 and lost to the Clippers, 16-7, on April 2.
