NORTH READING — The North Reading High girls’ tennis team won its final regular-season match, 3-2, over guest Swampscott on May 21 on a damp, chilly day.
With that non-league victory, the Hornets finished at 10-9 overall.

Althea Bradley won at first singles, 6-1, 6-2, while Matilda Ton won, 6-3, 6-1, at second singles.

Addison Stetson played at third singles and she lost, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles action, the first team of Mary Doble and Juliet Wasilewski lost in three sets. They lost the first one, 6-1, won the second one, 3-6, but fell, 6-1 in the final set.

The key win was at second doubles as the duo of Aniya Taneja and Shenaya Verma won in three sets. They lost the first one, 3-6, but won the second one, 6-3, and the rubber set, 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker).

“Aniya and Shenaya teamed up last year so they were familiar with each other,” pointed out Hornets head coach Matt Tiberii, as this was their first time together this season. “They clicked very well and it was a great team win.”

The seedings came out for the MIAA Division 3 state tournament on May 23 and the  Hornets were seeded 20th.

They played their first-round match on Wednesday at Danvers High (results not available at press time).

The Falcons, who are from the Northeastern Conference like Swampscott, came into the tournament as the 13th seed with a record of 12-6.
