Golfers conclude regular season with match against Lynnfield

By STEPHEN MARTELLUCCI

LYNNFIELD — The North Reading High golf team had its final regular-season match on Oct. 8 at Lynnfield on a wet, cool day at Sagamore Spring.

Lynnfield needed to win this match in order to qualify for the Division 2 North Sectionals. The Pioneers reached that feat as they won, 193-157, to complete the season sweep over the Hornets as they won the first meeting, 159-155, at Hillview Golf Club back on Sept. 4.

“They needed the match and were outstanding,” said Hornets head coach Jon Kiniry. “We played pretty well considering we were missing two starters (Leo Romanski  and Conrad Gerber).”

Noah Salvatierra led North Reading with 33 points (Stableford scoring). Bryce Fits was second with 28.

Dylan Harris, Brayden Carlson, and John Hardy all scored 25 points.

The 193 points was the most scored against the Hornets this fall.

“They have a good team and their lowest score of the six was 26,” pointed out Kiniry.

North Reading finished the season at 1-12 while the Pioneers finished at 7-6.

Romanski and Gerber competed in the Division 3 North Sectionals as individuals at Far Corner in West Boxford on Oct. 15 (results not available at press time). Both players will return to Far Corner on Oct. 16 to compete in the Cape Ann League Open. That event will start at 9 a.m.
