NORTH READING — Although the season did not end how the North Reading High volleyball team hoped, with a berth in the MIAA playoffs, the team did win its final match of the year as they beat Georgetown, 3-0, at home on Oct. 26.

With that victory, the Hornets ended the year at 6-14 overall and 5-11 in the Cape Ann League.

North Reading swept the Royals as well as they beat them, 3-1, back on Sept 12 in Georgetown.

The Hornets won the three sets, 25-21, 25-8 and 25-16.

“It was a fun match,” said Hornets head coach Mike Milone. “The seniors played most of the match and it was nice to end the season on a high note.”

Junior Sami Mutti led the team in kills with 10 while senior, Kaitlin Murnane, had 11 assists to go with one block.. Junior Julia Mulik had eight digs while junior Madison Hopfer had a team-high 13 assists.

Murnane, Shayla Alley and Grace Terranova, all captains for the Hornets, were the three seniors honored before the match.

The Hornets ended up ranked 35th in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings. Only the top 32 teams automatically qualify for the state tournament at the end of the regular season.
