NORTH READING — The year 2025 was exceptional for the Horseshoe Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament. It marked the 40th anniversary of this annual event. This year’s version featured 200 golfers teeing off simultaneously at two different courses: the Hillview and Sagamore. The $50,000 raised this year increases the fundraising total by the Lee family to over $750,000.
Both the Hillview in North Reading and Sagamore in Lynnfield are in fabulous shape. After all the rain this spring the “golf gods” were looking down on us with a perfect day. Ironically, the Horseshoe tournament has never been rained out in its total 40-year history.
This year the tournament was dedicated to Christy Gorman, a beloved fourth-grade teacher at the J.T. Hood School, mother of three and loving wife who lost her battle with triple negative breast cancer this year. Mike Gorman gave a heartfelt speech about his wife, her battle, and the love and support they received from family, friends and the community.

They say it takes a village to raise a child; well, it takes a village to run a golf tournament too. The following group of people executed their roles flawlessly. It took a lot of pre-planning, communication and dedication by all to run two courses simultaneously. Chris Carter, the golf pro at the Hillview and Tim Doucette, the golf pro at Sagamore, helped the day go off seamlessly. The Horseshoe’s group of volunteers consisted of: Noah Goldstein, Kim McKenna, Penni Mularky, Matt Miller, Dee Ramos-Dufresne, Lisa Bocchetti, Heidi Hogan, Jess Blanchette, Carol Marenholz, Erin Anderson, Dirk Anderson, Kevin Lee, Brian Lee, B. Lee, Nikki Coviello, Ashlie Cangiano, Mike Gorman and Kathi Lee.
“We would like to thank the owners of the Horseshoe Grille—Brad Atkinson, Ryan Cox and Noah Goldstein—for their support in keeping this wonderful event alive and thriving,” commented Pat Lee.

The tournament featured 15 contests with 30 winners between both men and women. Congratulations to all the winners, who each received $40 in theme with the 40th anniversary. The top 25 teams received a prize.
Earning first place, playing on Sagamore with a score of 14 below par, was the foursome of Tommy Florentino, Ryan Ledoux, Pat Fitzpatrick and Tyler Rhodes.

Taking second place, also playing on Sagamore and shooting an 11 below par, were Nick Sampson, Kevin Coughlin and Jack Storti, all carried by Kevin Gamst.
The third place team, again playing Sagamore, was the foursome of Dane Warden, Mike Duff, Brendan Lynch and Mike Storti, who shot a 10 below par.
The Horseshoe Grille and the Lee family have been associated with the Jimmy Fund for 70 years. Pat and Veronica Lee started with softball tournaments and road races, and 40 years ago Pat and Kathi Lee switched to golf tournaments. After selling the Horseshoe, Pat and Kathi continue to run the tournament with an unwavering support of the Horseshoe Grille ownership. The 40 years makes the Horseshoe tournament the second oldest in the Jimmy Fund system. The Lees are very proud of the tradition and are happy to contribute in some small way to the fight against cancer. Pat and Kathi would like to thank the North Reading community and the Horseshoe business partners for their continued support. Four decades would have never happened without their dedication to this worthy cause.

“Please review the attached sponsor list and support those who support our community through the Jimmy Fund. A special shout out goes to Cota Funeral Home. Along with the Horseshoe Grille, they were our biggest local sponsors,” Pat Lee said.
