NORTH READING — Isabel Brozena and Leo Romanski will be the two North Reading High representatives at the Cape Ann League Tournament on Oct. 12 at Far Corner in West Boxford.
Far Corner is one of the top-ranked courses on the North Shore.
That event will start at 9 a.m.
For Brozena, it will be her third year in a row playing as she came in first place as a sophomore and second place last year. There was no tournament when she was a freshman due to the pandemic.
“I think she has a great shot at winning,” stated Hornets head coach Brian McAuliffe, about the Xavier-bound senior.
For Romanski, it will be his first time as he is only a sophomore.
“He has really been hitting the ball well lately,” said McAuliffe.
Brozena leads the team in scoring (Stableford) this year averaging 34 points per round. Romanski was second on the team averaging 27 points.
The Hornets ended this week at 9-3 overall and 9-2 in the Cape Ann League. Two of those loses were against CAL Kinney Division champ, Lynnfield, while the other was against second-place Newburyport.
The team will practice next week to get ready for the Division 3 North sectionals which will take place on Oct. 22 at Stow Acres (North Course).
“Playing in the Cape Ann League helps us a lot,” said McAuliffe. “For schools with several Division 2 and 3 teams, our league is one of the best in the state.”
The team will practice at Hillview Golf Club next week and, hopefully, play a practice round next weekend at Stow Acres.
