Town Center sewer project delayed

NORTH READING — After a delay in the ability to obtain materials for the Town Center/Downtown Sewer Project last week, the town’s contractor, N. Granese & Sons, was slated to begin work on the project yesterday (at press time).

According to Town Engineer Dan O’Donnell, initial work includes digging test pits on School Department property within the east field complex driveway (near the Batchelder School) and in the Batchelder School field. Installation of pipe is expected to begin today, August 21.

“Work will continue within the School Department property in order to finish this phase prior to Labor Day weekend. Travel on the driveway to the east parking lot of the Middle/High School field complex and Batchelder School will be single lane traffic at times during construction. To avoid possible delays, access the field complex from the west parking lot (via the Middle/High School driveway),” he advised.

This project will construct a sewer system connecting six municipal and school buildings to the existing wastewater treatment plant located at North Reading Middle/High School via gravity and low pressure. The buildings are: L.D. Batchelder Elementary School, Police/Fire Public Safety Building, Flint Memorial Library, Third Meeting House/Edith O’Leary Senior Center, Damon Tavern and Rev. Daniel Putnam House.
