NORTH READING — Two more candidates have stepped forward and pulled their nomination papers for the town’s May 3 annual election.
Housing Authority member Michele A. Mawn, 5 John Bickford Way, whose five-year term expires in May, has opted to take out nomination papers to fill the current three-year vacancy on the board. This vacancy was created when Mary Prenney stepped down Dec. 31, 2021 after retiring as the town’s Elder Services Director and moving out of town.
This will leave Mawn’s five-year seat up for grabs for any interested candidates.
The second candidate to step forward this week is incumbent Town Moderator John J. Murphy, 13 Duane Drive, whose one-year term expires in May. The Town Moderator’s seat is the only elected position with a one-year term. He was first elected to the seat in 2004.
Candidates for any town office are required to obtain a minimum of 50 certifiable signatures which is defined as the legible signature of a registered voter of the town including the address at which the voter is registered. It is always recommended that candidates submit more than the minimum number of signatures in case some of the voters cannot be certified.
Previously, John Barrette of Dogwood Lane and Jodi Cloney of 365 Park St. pulled papers to run for the two three-year terms on the School Committee.
The deadline to turn in nomination forms is Tuesday, March 15.
