Cherished time with family; loved to golf, fish
NORTH READING — Alan D. Garey, 68, of North Reading, formerly of Reading, passed away suddenly in Daytona Beach, Florida, on July 31, 2023.
Alan was born on March 18, 1955, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of the late Demelle and Marion (Anderson) Garey.
Alan’s enormous love for his wife and kids was only second to the love he had for his grandchildren. Alan graduated from Reading Memorial High School Class of 1973 and furthered his education at Boston University. He loved to golf and absolutely treasured his time fishing with his son Michael. It gave him great joy. Alan’s most cherished time though, was spent with his grandchildren, Violet and Jonah. Alan was a wonderful husband and father.
He was so proud of his family. Alan’s relationship with his family was so special, from time spent in Florida with his wife, Paula and son, Mike, to his amazing bond with his daughter, Jenn. She was truly Daddy’s girl.
Alan was the beloved husband of Paula M. (Reardon) Garey and the devoted father of Michael R. Garey of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Jennifer M. Garey and her partner Christopher Kirby of Andover. He was the loving grandfather of Violet and Jonah Kirby and the cherished brother of Stephen W. Garey and his wife Kathy of Reading and Cynthia A. House and her husband Robert of Danvers.
A funeral service celebrating Alan’s life was held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home in Reading on Thursday, August 10. Burial is private.
