David Thompson

A generous friend and loving husband who loved to travel

NORTH READING — David Thompson, beloved husband of Judith (Cargill) Thompson, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025 at his home. Born in Springfield, Illinois, he is the loving son of the late David and Sofia Jane Thompson.

David grew up in Morrisonville, Illinois. He entered into the United States Navy and it brought him to Boston. There, David met the love of his life, Judy.  They married and settled together in North Reading. David was a Building Superintendent for the former Union Local 33 and not only was he a carpenter for his job, but David always had his toolbox with him and was the family and neighborhood carpenter and fixer.

Judy and David loved to travel, especially on their boat. After retirement, they achieved a dream of boating for five weeks through many ports in Canada. They traveled 144 Locks.  They also enjoyed camping on Lake Winnipesaukee and spending winters at their home in Venice, Florida.  Dave also took up photography, kayaking, golf and going to the gym. He loved his “coffee time” for over 20 years with great friends. David was a generous friend, a loving husband and a good guy.

In addition to being the husband of 62 years to Judy, he is the cherished grandfather of Brett Conant.  Dear brother of the late William, Martin and Richard Thompson and the late Lois Peterson.  He also leaves daughter, Jo-Ann M. Thompson, and granddaughter Sarah Conant.
