RN who enjoyed volunteering and traveling

NORTH READING — Sandra (Mann) Distaso, of North Reading, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. She was 70 years of age.

Born on May 23, 1954 in Melrose, Massachusetts, Sandra is the beloved wife of the late Theodore Distaso, Jr. and the loving daughter of the late William and Irene Mann.  She is the cherished mother of Chris Distaso and his wife Leilani, and Kevin Distaso and his wife Alexandra. The loving grandmother of Liliana, Kaelyn, and Michael Distaso, Sandy is the dear sister of William Mann, Jr. and his late wife Lynne. She is also the Aunt of Robert Mann and Samuel Gordon and is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sandra went to Melrose High School where she met her future husband, Ted.  She later attended New England Baptist Hospital where she received an Associate Degree and Diploma in Nursing in 1977.  She was a Registered Nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital in Orthopedics and Urology.  She worked for over 30 years as an RN all while lovingly raising a family.  She enjoyed precepting, which is teaching new graduates about nursing and the guideline protocols of orthopedics, and received her Orthopedics Nursing Certificate (ONC), which she renewed annually.

Sandra shared a passion for visiting sites across the United States and Europe.  She was a loving woman, well known around the community, volunteering as school trip organizer, youth sports coach, school committee member, and many more roles.

Family and friends gathered to share memories with Sandy’s family on Friday, February 28 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (Rte. 28), Stoneham.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Sandra’s Eternal Life was held on Saturday, March 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter St, North Reading. For those unable to attend the funeral in-person, a livestream link was offered: http://www.sttheresanreading.org/livestream

The Interment followed the Mass at Lakeside Cemetery on North Avenue, Wakefield at 12 p.m. Saturday.
