Generous listener and talented singer who enjoyed traveling and yachting
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida — Virginia “Ginny” Irene (Bigham) Jones, 88, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2023.
She was the wife of 70 years to her North Reading hometown sweetheart, Elmer R. Jones. She was the daughter of the late Carl Bigham, Sr. and the late Virginia Bigham and the beloved sister to Helen Rohner and the late Carl Bigham, Jr., and his wife, the late Helen Bigham. Ginny and her siblings spent many years making joy-filled music together in the North Reading Jubilaires, the Bigham Trio, and countless church services and community events.
Ginny poured her love and devotion into their children: David and Susan Jones, the late Debra Jones, Donna and Sean Boisen, Doreen and Jim Archard, Denise Richardson, and Darryl and Laura Jones; and their 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
As Vice President and co-founder of EJ Systems, Ginny worked tirelessly to empower the vocational aspirations of her husband and partner, Elmer “EJ” Jones. Together they built a legacy of hard work, determination and dedication. Elmer and Ginny traveled extensively for work and pleasure. They also found a home in the yachting community, enjoying many blue water adventures together.
Ginny was a consummate seamstress, employing her art in costume-making for North Reading’s community theater groups and several musicals at North Reading High. In later years, she served as assistant to daughter/designer Denise Richardson costuming church pageants and high school musicals in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area.
Gorgeous on the outside, Ginny’s true radiance came from within. She loved Jesus and she loved people. It seemed that everyone she met quickly became a friend and recipient of her wonderful hugs. She was a generous and kind listener, offering compassion and prayer, words of wisdom and heart-felt cheerleading to anyone needing encouragement.
Celebration of Life services will be held at Church By the Sea, 33305, 2700 Mayan Dr., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316 on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 2 p.m. and at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill St., North Reading, MA 01864 on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11 a.m.
