William N. Cohen, 83

Middle School math teacher and NRHS golf coach had 5 hole-in-ones

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — William Norman “Bill” Cohen lost his battle with cancer on February 17, 2025 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida under hospice care.

Bill was born on April 8, 1941 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Benjamin and Florence Cohen. Bill graduated from Peabody High School (1958) as a varsity golfer who loved Salem Country Club caddying. He earned his BA (business) from Suffolk University, his MA (education) from Salem State College, and served in the Coast Guard Reserve.

Bill and his wife Patricia (Tobin) were married for 55 years. Bill taught in Japan before teaching middle school math and coaching high school golf in North Reading, Massachusetts. Many of his golfers became PGA professionals and golf course superintendents. Bill served many years on the Thomson Country Club board of directors and eventually moved there from Lynnfield to The Greens (Hole #14). Bill had five hole-in-ones.

Bill retired from Boston’s North Shore to the Ft. Lauderdale Coast where he enjoyed golf, billiards, daily swims, long walks, and masterpoints duplicate bridge games. Bill served many roles on the Plaza South Condominium Board until his untimely death.

Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who believed in work, loving your family, and doing your best. Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Patricia, his sister Razel, his son Jeremy (wife Valarie), his daughter Missy (wife Sarah), and grandchildren Kelsey, Maegan, and Tobin.

No funeral arrangements are planned. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bill’s honor to a charity of one’s choice.
