A healthy dose of cooperative competition

THE BATCHELDER SCHOOL held its first Batchelder Winter Games recently. Designed to foster a sense of belonging, strengthen school-wide community, support character development, and encourage healthy competition among students, it was a resounding success. Organized by a committee of teachers and Principal Michael Maloney, and led by faculty and staff, the event celebrated Art, Music, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and Physical Education. A key highlight was the buddy system which paired each upper elementary classroom with a younger grade-level class. Together, students and teachers collaborated to create team names, posters, and a strong spirit of teamwork during competitions such the “Hot Cocoa Relay” and a “Snowball Toss” (both pictured). Every group took a team photo, which was proudly displayed on the bulletin board alongside awards recognizing their achievements. The event brought students together in a fun and meaningful way—setting the stage for a new Batchelder tradition. (Courtesy Photos)
