NORTH READING — Members of the Union Congregational Church partnered with the One Wish Project recently to provide a memorable birthday celebration for a 14-year-old child in the local foster care system.

One Wish Project is based in Andover and helps provide birthday parties for the over 700 children who are in foster care in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. These children often move between homes and something as simple as a birthday party can provide them with a sense of normalcy and joy.

Church volunteers baked and decorated cupcakes (with ice cream, of course), donated and wrapped gifts, supplied balloons and other decor, and delivered all of the birthday supplies directly to the foster home!

The Union Congregational Church plans to continue working with One Wish Project, with hopes of supplying additional birthday celebrations for children in foster care.

The church hosts various service projects each month and all are welcome to participate. If you would like to get involved, please reach out to Pastor Gayle McGlauflin (gayle@nrucc.org) or call the church office at 978-664-3703.
