MELROSE — The Melrose Human Rights Commission (MHRC) invites the Melrose community to honor MLK’s vision by volunteering during the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and by joining MLK-inspired concerts taking place in honor of the holiday.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
Monday, 10 a.m. to 12 noon
On this city-wide MLK Day of Service, hundreds of people from all over Melrose will complete service activities across the city.
How to volunteer:
• Visit the Sign Up Genius featuring over 500 volunteer opportunities with 13 different host organizations. Note that many host organizations are offering two volunteer shifts (10-10:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to 12 noon).
• Volunteering as a group/family? Please sign up each participant as space is limited at many locations.
• After you have signed up: Please note the time and location of where you are volunteering.
• On Monday, you just simply need to show up to your location. The organization host will be there to greet you and give you further instructions.
The Folk Collective FREE Concert
Sunday, January 14, 7 p.m.
The MHRC is proud to elevate and sponsor The Opening Doors Project’s next FREE concert with The Folk Collective, a diverse group of musicians and cultural thought leaders. For this special performance, members of The Collective will perform together and then engage in a conversation about communal activism and Dr. King’s “beloved community.”
MLK Day Choir
Monday, January 15, 7 p.m.
In honor of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, the Anti-Racism Team of the Melrose Unitarian Universalist Church invites the Melrose community to attend a performance of the Melrose MLK Choir.
