NORTH READING — The Lynnfield and North Reading High baseball teams met for the second time this season on Monday at Carey Park for a much-anticipated, rivalry rematch.
Lynnfield, ranked No. 1 in the latest Div. 4 power rankings, beat the Hornets (No. 6 in Div. 3) 6-3 on April 19 at LHS.
The Pioneers completed the season sweep on the road Monday, topping their rivals 6-2. Lynnfield (11-3) has now handed North Reading (11-2) their only two losses of the season.
Junior captain Luke DiSilvio got the win on the mound, scattering 7 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 7 over 7 innings. He also added a home run at the plate.
Lynnfield tallied 10 hits on the day. Leadoff hitter, senior Charlie Morgan had 4 base hits, an RBI, stolen base and a run scored. Junior captain Drew George went 2-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
The Hornets got the first run of the game in the 1st inning but the Pioneers countered with 2 in the 2nd. North Reading tied it in the 3rd before a stalemate occurred for the next two frames. The Pioneers took the lead in the 6th and added 3 insurance runs in the 7th while DiSilvio and the defense cruised to victory.
George’s 2-run homer to left put Lynnfield on the board in the 2nd, scoring junior Dylan Nguyen.
DiSilvio worked around 3 singles in the 3rd to limit the Hornets to 1 run by striking out the side.
Both teams were sat down in order in the 4th. DiSilvio did the same to the home team in the 5th.

DiSilvio helped his own cause with a solo shot to left in the 6th inning, a clutch hit which ended up being the game-winner.
The Hornets threatened in the bottom of the 6th with three straight singles to open the inning. DiSilvio buckled down, getting a fly out for the first out. Then, he got out of it with a comeback grounder that he fielded and started a 1-2-3 double play to maintain the lead and take all of the wind out of the sails for the Hornets.
Lynnfield capitalized in the 7th. George singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. He later came around to score on an RBI single by Morgan. A balk and an error accounted for the final two runs before DiSilvio finished off his gem with a strikeout to end the game.
The Pioneers beat Essex Tech 9-5 at home in the previous game on May 8.
Senior captain Tyler Adamo got the win on the mound, allowing 7 hits, no earned runs and fanning 6 over 4.2 innings.
Lynnfield led 3-1 after 4 innings and added 3 in the 5th and 6th to all but seal the win.
A single by Nguyen put the Pioneers on the board in the 2nd. He had 2 hits and 3 RBI.
In the 3rd, Lynnfield broke a tie with an RBI single by senior Walter Radulski who finished with 3 hits, 2 RBI and 2 runs. Junior Matthew Tracy followed with RBI hit to make it 3-1. Tracy had 2 hits and 2 RBI on the day.
The Pioneers traveled to Rockport on Tuesday after press time. After that, they will have five games remaining in the regular season with an eye on maintaining the top spot in the power rankings heading into the D4 state tournament.
