Pioneer spikers beat Fenwick in first round, get ready for Lynn Classical

LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High volleyball team defeated Bishop Fenwick 3-0 in a first round matchup on Saturday at LHS.

The 4th-seeded Pioneers, who improved to 19-2 with the win, ended No. 29 Fenwick’s season with a record of 9-12.

Lynnfield hosted No. 13 Lynn Classical (19-2) in the Round of 16 on Tuesday after press time. The winner will meet the winner of No. 5 Old Rochester vs. No. 12 Blackstone Valley in the quarterfinals.

Lynnfield had a strong effort from start to finish in their win over the Crusaders in front of a full house on Saturday with set victories of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-21.

Senior captain Alexia Vaquerano and junior captain Audrey Manning led the attack with 12 kills each. Vaquerano added 7 digs while Manning had 6 digs and 15 assists. Senior captain Olivia Kelter chipped in 6 kills and 9 digs.

Junior Elliana Moretti led the defensive effort with 16 digs and 24 serve receptions.

Sophomore Milana Labkovich dominated the net with 3 blocks.

Sophomore Carina DeLeo had 16 assists.

Lynnfield was also strong at the service line with 8 aces led by 3 from junior Thayer Sutherland and 2 each from Kelter and sophomore Sophie Shaievitz.
