IPSWICH — Playing in the rain on Sept. 25, the Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team tied host Ipswich 1-1. With that result, the Pioneers’ record went to 5-1-3 overall and 4-1-3 in the Cape Ann League. The Tigers, meanwhile, went to 2-4-4 overall and 1-3-4 in the CAL.

“The conditions were tough as the field played fast,” explained Lynnfield head coach Brent Munroe, as the FieldTurf surface sped up the ball.

After a scoreless opening half, the Pioneers scored first 20 minutes into the second half as Ollie Morgan scored assisted by Rocco Scenna.

The Tigers tied it with just over three minutes remaining in the game on a header.

“After we scored, we played not to lose,” admitted Munroe. “We got too defensive.”

LHS out-shot Ipswich 13-6 as Pioneer goalkeeper Dino Gesamondo, made five stops.

The first power rankings came out on Sept. 26 and Lynnfield was seeded 20th in Division 3. This is the first year the Pioneers are in Div. 3 as they were moved up from Div. 4.

The top 32 teams in each division, regardless of record, automatically qualify for the state tournament at the end of the regular season.

The Pioneers’ next game is on Oct. 3 as they host Triton. In the first meeting on Sept. 4, the schools tied, 1-1, up in Byfield.

On Oct. 7, Lynnfield welcomes Manchester-Essex. Both of those games will start at 4 p.m.
