WAKEFIELD — On Wednesday, May 14, the community is invited to an Open House at the McCarthy Senior Center as staff unveil the newly renovated second and third floors to the public.
All are welcome to gather from 12 to 2 p.m. for tours and a performance by the Council on Aging’s POMtastics dance team. The Center is located at 30 Converse St.
The building was originally constructed in 1895 as the H.M. Warren School and now functions as the Senior Center and Veterans Service Office. In 2024, the Town Council allocated ARPA funds to renovate the upper levels of the building. This space was previously unused and will now provide an additional 7,650 square feet for programming.
“The Center is an incredibly vibrant place,” notes Director Karen Burke “and our offerings have evolved to better meet the needs of our senior community. While we still have traditional activities like cards and movie screenings, we also have fitness classes, support group meetings, cooking classes, on-site health clinics, art workshops, music lessons, and so much more. The new space will allow us to continue to develop new programming and provide even more value to our guests.”
No registration is required for this event. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about upcoming activities, call 781-245-3312. View the latest Senior Center newsletter at www.wakefield.ma.us/senior-center-newsletter.
