NORTH READING — A little rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the record-breaking 125 golfers who participated in the St. Theresa Parish 5th annual Golf Tournament. Everyone was happy it wasn’t a repeat of last year’s downpour. A positive vibe was felt at the Hillview Golf Course on July 29 as everyone came together to have a fun and competitive day of golf.
The tournament raised over $40,000–another record–for the restoration and refurbishment of the church’s aging stained-glass windows.

Father Agustín Anda, parochial vicar at St. Theresa Parish and new to the sport, started the morning with a prayer. After the blessing, the golfers went to their assigned holes for the 8 a.m. shotgun start.
Taking first place in the Open Division was the team of Mark Bisognano, Tim Fitzgerald, Eric Archambault and Tommy Cassell. Second place went to Ed D’Entremont, Steve D’Entremont, Brian Lee and Pat Lee. Winning third place was the veteran group of the Four Amigos, Mike Hennessey, Ryan MacDonald, Jim Kieran and Kevin Kieran.

Jayne Patrikas and Rebecca Shore won the Women’s Division. In the Senior Division, the team of Fran Hachey, Jim Tryder, Paul Dorsey and John Carroll took the honors.
After the tournament, golfers gathered at the parish hall for a delicious luncheon buffet, courtesy of the Horseshoe Grille. Everyone found out who took home the prizes and bragging rights for another year.

In addition to recognizing the winning teams, prizes were awarded in six categories, women’s longest drive: Michele Canan; men’s longest drive: Eric Trickett; women’s straightest drive: Colleen Crowley; men’s straightest drive: Jim Tryder; women’s closest to the pin: Barbara Peckham; and men’s closest to the pin: Rick Glynn.

Father Brian McHugh, pastor at St. Theresa, would like to thank Pat Lee and Helen Hagman, event co-chairs, and the golf committee of: Bill Barringer, John Sannella, Terry Hahn, Carol Hudson, Chuck Carucci, Hank Burke, Julie O’Donnell, Lena McCauley, Nancy King, Michele Barrette and Andrea Sevigny. The parish is grateful for their consistent dedication and tireless efforts that made the tournament a huge success.

In addition, there were many people who helped in so many ways behind the scenes and on the day of the event. A grateful thank-you to Jack McTeague, Mike Hennessey, Joyce DiGiantommaso, Betty Erickson, Lenora Rego, Sheila Berry, Maggie Haggerty, Josephine Doherty and Elaine Finnegan. Also, thank you to Chris Carter, Gary Lynch and Matt Price, and the staff of the Hillview Golf Course, who helped the event run smoothly.
Lastly, we would like to give a big thank you to the Cota Funeral Home and Jack and Eileen Connors for being major sponsors of the event as well as all our sponsors and donors. See our ad in today’s issue of the North Reading Transcript for a listing of all the businesses that donated to the Golf Tournament. Please consider supporting these businesses that support us! These are the people who give back to the community and we hope you will do the same for them. Without the sponsors, the tournament would not have been the success it was.
