WAKEFIELD — If you received a Senior Citizen Circuit Breaker Income Tax Credit for 2024, you might be eligible for a Wakefield Property Tax Exemption up to $2,730.
The Circuit Breaker Tax Credit is a state income tax credit for certain Massachusetts residents age 65 or older who pay rent or real estate taxes during the tax year. Wakefield’s Senior Discount program matches 100 percent of the Senior Circuit Breaker Income Tax Credit provided residents meet certain criteria.To take advantage of Wakefield’s Senior Discount Program for Fiscal Year 2026, applicants must have received the State’s Senior Circuit Breaker Income Tax Credit; have been 65 years of age by the close of the prior calendar year. A co-applicant must have turned 60 years of age; have owned and occupied a home in Wakefield for the past ten consecutive years; have no other significant assets, i.e. second home, trust fund, etc.; and make timely application with Wakefield’s Board of Assessors.
The deadline to submit an application is September 30.
