Special election deadlines set

WAKEFIELD — A special election will be held June 24 to fill a vacant seat on the Town Council. Candidates must submit nomination papers by May 20.

So far, Emerson Street’s Samuel Hockenbury and Gerard Lehman of Fox Road have expressed an interest in the position, having taken out nomination papers April 29 and April 30 respectively.

The vacancy on the Town Council was created when Ed Dombroski was elected Town Treasurer in the annual Town Election on April 22.

The Town Council voted last week to hold a June 24 special election to fill the vacancy.

Nomination papers are now available at the Town Clerk’s Office in Town Hall for anyone interested in running for the vacant Town Council post.

The decline to withdraw is May 22. The last day to register to vote in the special election is June 14.

At the annual Town Election held last month, Dombroski was the victor in a four-way contest for Town Treasurer, a position held for over two decades by John J. McCarthy Jr., who decided to retire and to not seek reelection.

Dombroski defeated Michael McLane, Andrew McCarthy and Peter McManama in the race to succeed John McCarthy.
