LYNNFIELD — The terrific start to the 2025 season continued last week for the LHS volleyball team. The Pioneers beat Lynn Classical 3-0 on Friday night at Lynnfield High, improving to 4-0.
The home team had to earn victories in every set, especially the first and third where they won with matching 25-21 scores. The second set was a quicker, 25-15 final.
Lynnfield’s attack was paced by senior captain Alexia Vaquerano (13 kills) and junior captain Audrey Manning (12 kills).
Both were strong from the service line as well with Manning adding 3 aces and Vaquerano 2. Vaquerano was second on the team in digs (16) and serve receptions (19). Manning was second in assists with 18.
Senior captain Olivia Kelter had a strong game with 6 kills, an ace, 8 receptions and 5 digs.
Sophomore Carina DeLeo had a team-high 19 assists.
Junior Elliana Moretti had a team-high 21 digs and 22 receptions.
Lynnfield traveled to Reading on Monday and gave the non-league Rockets a tough match before suffering their first loss of the season 3-2.
In a back-and-forth matchup, Reading needed extra set to take the opener, 26-24 before Lynnfield won set two, 25-17. The Pioneers took a 2-1 lead with a 25-22 win in the third set but the Rockets came roaring back with a 25-15 win in set three before closing it out 15-11 in the fifth and deciding set.
Lynnfield returned to CAL play on Tuesday after press time when they hosted Triton. They visit Lawrence on Friday night at 5 p.m. and then host Newburyport on Monday, also at 5 p.m.
