LYNNFIELD — The Think Of Michael Foundation, based in Lynnfield, has donated $10,000 to Beverly-based Northshore Recovery High School’s after-school and summer programs.
Northshore Recovery High School opened its doors in September 2006 with the support of the Northshore Education Consortium, Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. It provides students ages 14 to 21 with a safe and supportive community in an academic and therapeutic environment. The school meets the diverse academic, recovery and mental health needs of students who struggle with substance use and its co-occurring issues, including trauma.
The North Reading School Department is a member of the Northshore Education Consortium, therefore, students from town are eligible to attend Northshore Recovery High School.
“Michelle Lipinski, the school’s principal, and her staff do an outstanding job teaching and supporting these youngsters,” said Think Of Michael President Carmela Dalton. “In discussions with her, it was obvious that one area in which funding from the foundation could really make a difference is in expanding the after-school and summertime program.”
The gift was preceded by the foundation donating $2,000 in Target gift cards to help get students what they needed during the holiday season and throughout the year.
“Those cards are managed by the school staff to ensure that the cards are used for necessities that they might not be able to get otherwise,” said Dalton.
Lipinski expressed her gratitude to the Think Of Michael Foundation for its $10,000 donation.
“We are beyond grateful to have people in our lives such as Dick and Carmela and their friends and family who support our community,” said Lipinski. “From the moment I met them, I knew we would be working together to change the way we treat those who struggle with substance use and other mental health challenges.”
The staff of Northshore Recovery High School is committed to providing students and their families with the support necessary to enable its students to complete their high school educations and receive their diplomas in an environment that supports each individual’s unique recovery needs. Through fostering an ethic of honesty and mutual respect, promoting accountability to oneself and to the community, Northshore Recovery High School prepares students for higher education, military service or employment.
Established in 2018 in memory of Michael Dalton, the Think Of Michael Foundation not only provides sober living placement, transition assistance and financial scholarships, but also access to its extensive knowledge and network of reputable recovery resources to further help people and families in any way possible. Each scholarship recipient is placed in the absolute best possible situation to meet their individual recovery goals and specific needs to achieve and sustain long-term recovery.
